Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 4, 2026

Cheers (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a messaging app that lets friends send short, kind messages to each other’s lock screens. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Age Requirement

Cheers is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using the app, please contact us and we will delete their data.

Data We Collect

When you use Cheers, we collect and store the following:

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any other personal information. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind.

How Your Data Is Used

Your data is used only to provide the core functionality of the app:

Data Storage

Your data is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), hosted in the United States. Your device identifier, username, and friend code are also stored locally on your device.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties. Your messages are only visible to you and the friend you send them to.

Data Retention

Your Rights

You can delete all of your data at any time by going to Settings in the app and tapping “Delete my account and data.” This permanently removes your profile, username reservation, friend code, all friendships, all messages, and all associated data from our servers. This action cannot be undone.

Content Moderation

Before a cheer is sent, it’s checked on your device against a list of slurs and obvious abuse patterns. If a cheer is blocked, it isn’t sent and isn’t stored on our servers — the rejected draft never leaves your phone.

Reporting and Blocking

You can report users for inappropriate behavior or block users directly from the Friends screen. Reports are reviewed by our team. Blocked users are removed from your friends list and can no longer send you messages.

When you block another user, the block relationship is stored in our backend so the block persists across app reinstalls and across devices signed in to the same identity. A block record contains only your device identifier, the blocked device identifier, and the time of the block — never any message content.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
